Met Gala 2019: The best, most outrageous and 'campest' celebrity looks
The most anticipated event in the A-list calendar is finally underway, as the biggest names in film, fashion and art take to the famous Met Gala 2019 steps.
Held at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the annual bash is undoubtedly the greatest opportunity of all for stars to showcase their red carpet prowess on a global scale – with many competing to be crowned most gram-worthy.
This year’s theme of ‘Camp: Notes on Fashion’ – inspired by American writer Susan Sontag’s 1964 essay Notes on ‘Camp‘ – is arguably its most fitting yet. And the open-to-interpretation invite successfully lured even the most timid of dressers out of their sartorial comfort zone.
According to Sontag, “the whole point of camp is to dethrone seriousness” and boy, did showbiz heavyweights inject the fun and flamboyancy back into the fashion agenda.
Leave it to Queen of Camp Lady Gaga to remind us that playing dress-up should be about having letting loose every once in a while, as the singer made a grand total of four outfit changes in a series of looks by Brandon Maxwell.
Meanwhile, co-host Harry Styles donned head-to-toe Gucci. We wouldn’t half fancy borrowing that romantic pussy-bow blouse…
