Meryl Streep, 70, steps out in a stunning Givenchy dress at Venice Film Festival
It’s not blue, it’s not turquoise, it’s not lapis: Meryl Streep’s Venice Film Festival gown is actually cerulean.
The actress channelled Miranda Priestley, who she played in The Devil Wears Prada in 2006, in one of her best red carpet looks to date as she returned to the festival circuit this weekend in Venice.

Usually the 70-year-old opts for more comfortable and tailored looks, but The Devil Wears Prada and Big Little Lies star showed her playful side in a stunning Japanese-style Givenchy gown for the premiere of her film, The Laundromat.
The colourful ensemble is the Floral-Print Silk-Satin Midi Dress from the luxury label’s Autumn/Winter 2019 collection, which features a mock neckline, long balloon sleeves and a vibrant floral print.
The dress retails for £3,880 on Net-A-Porter and is available in numerous sizes.
The description of the gown reads: “Givenchy's midi dress is decorated with clusters of vibrant, painterly blooms inspired by the intricate patterns on Japanese vases.
“Seen at the Fall '19 show, it's made from lustrous silk-satin that's partially lined for coverage and has sweeping neck ties.

Meryl styled hers with red satin court shoes, gold hoop earrings and a pair of tortoiseshell square sunglasses to complement her look.
The actress was joined by US director Steven Soderbergh, her co-star Gary Oldman and writer and journalist, Jake Bernstein, on the red carpet at the 76th Venice Film Festival at Sala Grande on Sunday.
Meryl Streep portrays Ellen Martin, whose dream vacation takes a wrong turn and leads her down a rabbit hole of shady dealings that can be traced to one Panama City law firm run by seductive partners Jürgen Mossack (Oldman) and Rámon Fonseca (Antonio Banderas).
She soon learns that that her minor predicament is only a drop in a bucket of millions of files linking an off-shore tax account scheme to the world’s richest and most powerful political leaders.

It is based on the Panama Papers investigation, which was uncovered by two-time Pulitzer Prize-winning investigative reporter and author, Jake Bernstein.
The film premiered at the Venice Film Festival on Sunday and hits cinemas on 27 September and will be available on Netflix on 18 October.
