Meghan Markle's feminist message to schoolchild: 'girls can do anything'
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have attracted a lot of attention on their royal tour of Australia, with locals turning out en masse to see the couple.
But it’s their youngest fans the royal couple seem to have connected with the most.
Speaking to Yahoo’s Australian outlet, Sethunya Gibbons, 9, revealed she had been waiting to meet Harry and Meghan for around four hours, outside the Sydney Opera House wearing a “girls can do anything” t-shirt.
She said: “Meghan said she looked like me when she was younger and that girls can do anything.
“He [Harry] took my phone and took a photo of me and Meghan together.”
When asked if Meghan was her favourite person now, Sethunya nodded and said “yes.”
The Duchess, who is around four months pregnant with her first child, is a renowned feminist and has been a strong advocate for women’s rights from an early age.
It seems she’s even influenced husband Harry, who spoke about the fight for gender equality at Macarthur Girls High School in Sydney.
He told students: “Men can help as well by getting involved, we have to,” he said. “We need to get men’s voices involved as soon as possible.”
This weekend, the Duke and Duchess will attend the opening ceremony of the Invictus Games, after Harry climbed Sydney Harbour Bridge with Scott Morrison, Prime Minister of Australia on Friday, to raise the Invictus Flag.
