Meghan Markle wears a special gift from New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern

Meghan Markle wore a gift from Jacinda Ardern, the Prime Minister of New Zealand, during her second day in the country.

She wore a pair of earrings given to her by the politician for an engagement at the North Shore in Redvale, New Zealand.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are completing the final leg of their royal tour of Australia, Fiji, Tonga and New Zealand.

Yesterday, Meghan was pictured wearing the new pair of stud earrings which left the internet temporarily clueless – after all, the Duchess often sticks to her go-to Birks earrings.

According to Royal Central, the new pair were gifted to Meghan by Jacinda, and it would seem she is a massive fan, wearing them two days on the run.

The studs were later identified as the ‘Discologoo’ style from New Zealand based jewellery designer Boh Runga, and feature a Huia feather design – a Maori symbol which means leadership.

It is no surprise if the two women – both notable advocates for women’s rights – are fond of one another: famously, Jacinda gained feminist hero status when she brought her newborn baby to the UN General Assembly.

Nor is it a coincidence Jacinda chose to gift Meghan a ‘leadership’ symbol as she takes her royal role in her stride.
