Meghan Markle made an unscheduled appearance in Johannesburg on Monday afternoon.
Although the official royal tour of Johannesburg doesn’t kick off until Tuesday, Meghan chose to make a solo visit to Victoria Yards, which celebrates the power of community by bringing together local artisans and creators.
Several images of the trip were shared on the Sussex Royal Instagram account, which showed the Duchess looking at children’s artwork and speaking to local artists, including designers, sculptors, carpenters and metal workers.
“The Duchess had the chance to connect with the children and founders of the phenomenal programme for kids’ development Timbuktu in The Valley”, the Sussex Royal Instagram explained.

“She was also struck by the local denim designer who founded eponymous brand Tshepo who shared this info about the logo for his line: “The crown on my jeans represents the three ladies who raised me. Enjoy wearing this crown.””
Tshepo Mohlala, who founded his custom jeans brand in 2015, also posted about the meeting, revealing that Meghan had placed an order for a pair of jeans weeks ago.
“About 4 weeks ago I got a call from the British embassy. The Duchess of Sussex placed an order for a pair of jeans and today she came to collect them personally...” he said on Twitter.
