Meghan Markle and the Queen are "truly happy and comfortable" together, body language expert reveals
All eyes were on a Givenchy-clad Meghan Markle yesterday, as she made her debut solo outing with Queen Elizabeth II in Cheshire.
Just less than a month after tying the knot to Prince Harry, the Duchess of Sussex was invited by Her Majesty to join her on the regal road trip.
Travelling by royal train – a gesture which has never been extended to the likes of Harry or Kate – the duo spent the day shaking hands with members of the public and unveiling the likes of Mersey Gateway Bridge and the Storyhouse Theatre.
The event marked Meghan’s third official post-wedding engagement and at her last ceremony alongside Her Majesty, Trooping the Colour 2018, a professional lip reader revealed that she was admittedly ‘nervous’.
But if the now-viral photographs of the regal duo in a fit of giggles are anything to go by, they’re a right royal match.
According to body language expert, Elizabeth Kuhnke, “this is more than a good actress playing her part”.
The best-selling author told Yahoo Style UK, “Having studied photos and videos of the Queen and the Duchess of Sussex together, the two seem to get along swimmingly. While Meghan demonstrates some uncertainty about where she should position herself at times, once seated by the Queen the two look like BFFs.”
Admittedly, when the Duchess of Sussex stepped off the royal train behind Her Majesty she appeared nervous, as she twiddled her hair in the Queen’s shadow. But according to body language expert, Anna Ostergren, this is a subconscious act of ‘self armour’.
“She adjusts her hair regularly, as it’s a habitual practice you see her do often,” she told Yahoo Style UK. “Meghan’s body language indicates an eagerness to get it right. She is very aware of the stakes – focusing on each micro task as it happens – with some minor self preservation gestures as she goes along such as adjusting her hair.”

Later in the afternoon, the former ‘Suits’ star stumbled across a royal dilemma. Meghan was unsure as to whether she should step into the car before the Queen or not. We’ve all been there.
But in a gesture of true friendship, the Queen brushed protocol aside and let her new grandmother-in-law into the plush vehicle before her. If that’s not goals then we don’t know what is.

“Whether they are laughing together, or showing deference for the victims of the Grenville fire, their body language matches one another’s,” Kuhnke revealed. “Mirroring and matching one another’s body language is a sure sign of rapport.”
“The Queen seems truly happy and comfortable in Meghan’s company and the young duchess seems equally at ease in the the company of the Queen. Meghan seems genuinely happy to have found her perfect role in life.”
It’s official: the royal duo’s fledging relationship has been given the Buckingham Palace stamp of approval.
