Meghan and Harry 'need' their six-week break from royal duties, says royal expert
Meghan Markle and Prince Harry are in “need” of a break, a royal expert has claimed.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are currently on a six-week break from royal duties for “much-needed family time”.
Royal reporter Omid Scobie spoke about the family’s need to take time out during on the latest
“It’s a long term trip that they’re on, they’re going to be away until Christmas – good for them,” royal reporter Omid Scobie says in the latest episode of his podcast The HeirPod.
“I remember having a conversation with one of their aides and I was like, I know they’re going to end up working, and they said ‘No, they actually quite welcome the break, they need it.’”
Scobie said there’s “no expectation” for Meghan, 38, and Harry, 35, to attend the Queen’s annual Sandringham Christmas festivities.
“The Sussexes are on official leave at the moment so there will be no expectation on them to attend. That’s quite normal, we’ve seen members of the Royal Family on absence on their own personal leave in the past.”
The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, for example, have spent two Christmases with the duchess’ parents Carole and Michael Middleton: in 2012 and 2016.
It was confirmed the Duke and Duchess of Sussex would not be attending the annual Royal Family Christmas gathering at the Sandringham Estate last month.
“Having spent the last two Christmases at Sandringham, their royal highnesses will spend the holiday this year, as a new family, with the duchess’ mother Doria Ragland,” a spokesperson told Sky News.
Meghan and Harry, together with their baby son Archie are believed to have spent Thanksgiving with Markle’s mother Doria Ragland, who lives in California.
But, this hasn’t been confirmed by Buckingham Palace who usually decline to comment on private matters.
