Meghan Markle shows support for friend Misha Nonoo's fashion line at Kensington Palace book launch

To celebrate the launch of the Duchess of Sussex‘s new cookbook, the royal has invited those involved in the project for lunch at Kensington Palace this afternoon.

Invitees include women from the Hubb Community Kitchen who inspired the book after founding the charity to support those affected by the Grenfell Tower fire.

Others on the guest list include representatives from Ebury Press, The Royal Foundation and Al Manaar Muslim Cultural Heritage Centre. The Duke of Sussex and the Duchess’ mother, Doria Ragland, are also on hand today to offer Meghan support on her first solo royal endeavour.

For the launch of ‘Together: Our Community Cookbook’, the 37-year-old eschewed her Duchess-worthy wardrobe in favour of more casual attire. The Duchess dressed in a suitably $1,195 (approx £697) regal blue coat by Canadian label Smythe finished and a $110 (approx £82) protocol-breaking Tuxe body.

It’s interesting to note that the royal also used the opportunity to showcase her close friend Misha Nonoo’s eponymous line in a pleated skirt by the American designer.

Nonoo is widely reported to have set up Harry and Meghan on a blind date so it comes as no surprise that the Duchess is using her global platform to sing the designer’s praises.

The former actress famously wore the aptly-named ‘Husband’ shirt by Nonoo on her first public appearance with Prince Harry at the 2017 Invictus Games.

In terms of accessorises, the royal kept it minimal with a dainty ring by Catbird, £417 Sarah Flint shoes and Duchess of Cambridge-inspired curls.

The new cookbook includes over 50 recipes written by women from the Hubb Community Kitchen and proceeds will enable the charity to continue running. The Duchess of Sussex first visited the kitchen back in January 2018 and has made several under-the-radar visits ever since.

The former blogger wrote the foreword for the cookbook which features recipes from across Europe, North Africa, the Middle East and the Eastern Mediterranean.

The Duchess of Sussex wrote, “I immediately felt connected to this community kitchen; it is a place for women to laugh, grieve, cry and cook together.”

“Melding cultural identities under a shared roof, it creates a space to feel a sense of normalcy – in its simplest form, the universal need to connect, nurture, and commune through food, through crisis or joy – something we can all relate to… Through this charitable endeavour, the proceeds will allow the kitchen to thrive and keep the global spirit of community alive.”
