Michelle Obama offers parenting advice to Meghan Markle in Vogue interview: 'Savour it all'
Michelle Obama has advised the Duke and Duchess of Sussex to “savour it all,” when it comes to parenthood.
The former First Lady of the United States gave her words of wisdom during her interview with Meghan Markle, who has guest edited British Vogue’s September issue.
New mum Meghan describes how she asked Mrs Obama to take part in the project “over a casual lunch of chicken tacos and my ever-burgeoning bump.” In a foreword, she reveals how the Q&A style interview took place over email and Michelle “very promptly sent answers.”
Meghan reveals how she felt “connected to Mrs Obama,” after hearing her speak at London’s Royal Festival Hall last December. She had quietly snuck into the talk and the pair had a private conversation backstage afterwards.

The duchess asks the former FLOTUS six questions about motherhood, the advice she’d give to her daughters and her 15-year-old self and the inspiration behind her Girls Opportunity Alliance campaign.
The last question, which Meghan refers to as a “wild-card,” - “What is the most beautiful sound that you’ve ever heard?"
Mrs Obama says: “When Malia and Sasha were newborns, Barack and I could lose hours just watching them sleep. We loved to listen to the little sounds they’d make – especially the way they cooed when they were deep into dreaming.
“Don’t get me wrong, early parenthood is exhausting. I’m sure you know a thing or two about that these days. But there is something so magical about having a baby in the house. Time expands and contracts; each moment holds its own little eternity.
“I’m so excited for you and Harry to experience that, Meghan. Savour it all.”
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex welcomed their first child Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor on May 6.
Meghan has been working alongside British Vogue’s editor-in-chief Edward Enninful since January to create the ‘Forces for Change’ issue, which is out on Friday 2 August.
The duchess is not featured on the cover and has instead chosen 15 inspirational women who have made an impact, with a 16th spot to reflect a mirror to encourage the reader to bring about their own change.
