The Meghan Markle effect: Garden party Goat dress sells out in minutes and causes website to crash
There’s no denying that since she swapped the Hollywood Hills for Kensington Palace, the interest for Meghan Markle has grown 100-fold and cemented her as a household name in fashion.
Following in the footsteps of The Duchess of Cambridge, the 36-year-old has garnered a serious fanbase with every outfit that she dons.
Within a mere matter of minutes, her latest look is shared (and imitated) across the globe – and since her nuptials just days ago, it seems the nation’s interest has only deepened further.
Yesterday, the newly-titled Duchess of Sussex stepped out for her first appointment as a fully-fledged member of the royal family: Prince Charle’s garden party at Buckingham Palace.
For the occasion, Meghan wore Goat Fashion’s Flavia dress in pale peach, which features a sheer top and sleeves.
Minutes later, the brand’s website crashed and the dress sold out on nearly all other fashion retailers, including Far Fetch and Matches Fashion.
“We are delighted Meghan chose to wear Goat and it was a pleasure the make a custom dress for her,” a spokesperson told Elle UK.
The clutch that she wore with it – the Charlie Oyster Silk Clutch by Wilbur and Gussie – has also since sold out on the brand’s website.
Meghan wore the look with a bespoke Philip Treacy hat and Tamara Mellon heels.
