Special meaning behind Meghan Markle's bracelet

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex shared some previously unseen photos of their trip to Botswana in 2017 to mark World Elephant Day on Monday.

Harry and Meghan assisted Dr. Mike Chase of conservation charity Elephants Without Borders in equipping elephants with satellite collars.

The second photos shows Meghan’s hands and she’s wearing a silver bangle in the style of an elephant hair bracelet.

The traditional versions contained real elephant hair, but now they’re usually made from different types of metals.

According to Hello! the African bracelets are believed to bring people luck and wearers will be be blessed with health, love, prosperity and progress.

The number of knots also signifies different meanings. Two knots (as seen on Meghan) represent the earth (fertility and ancestors) and nature (forces and spirits). Moving the knots closer together is said to signify the connection of earth and nature.

Although these photos were taken before the couple had baby Archie, Meghan often wears minimalist jewellery with symbolic meanings.

In the photo, she also wears her Catbird NYC Threadbare rings and her Kismet Hamsa Ring.

The hamsa is a protective sign, said to bring the wearer happiness, love and protection. It is known as the Hand of Fatima in Islam and the Hand of Miriam in Judaism.

This autumn, Harry and Meghan are heading off on a tour of Africa and they’re taking Archie with them.
