Marathon chocolate bars are back once again after a 30-year hiatus where they were re-named Snickers.
The nutty, nougat bars are back for a limited time only and are being described as the “retro edition” featuring old-school packaging.
Just when we thought they were destined for the same fate as Opal Fruits (now Starburst) and Milky Way (remember when that was called a Flyte bar?) Morrisons has resurrected them.
They’ll be sold exclusively in Morrisons stores for just 12 weeks, starting on August 10, so fans of the old packaging won’t have long to grab one.

After the 12 weeks of nostalgia comes to an end, the Marathon bar will go back to being called Snickers.
Mars Wrigley named the chocolate bar ‘Marathon’ in 1930 and it lasted 60 years before being re-named Snickers.
There wasn’t a specific reason why the confectionary giant decided to change the name back then. It appears it was simply because it wanted the UK version of the bar to match the US branding.
During the transitional phase, the sweet treat carried both names in the UK for a while before being completely re-branded as Snickers.

This isn’t the first time Morrisons has brought back the popular snack. It marks exactly one year since it last tried out the retro throwback.
Owing to its popularity, the supermarket chain has decided to bring back the classic packaging once more.
Last time, people could only buy them in packs of four whereas this time you’ll be able to get just one bar or a four-pack.
Four-packs will cost £1.25 and a single bar will cost 31p.

In 2006, there was some speculation over whether Mars Wrigley was looking to bring back the name Marathon and do away with Snickers.
It re-registered the brand name in the UK but nothing ever came on it, apart from the odd throwback bar.
“At Mars Wrigley we’re all about creating better moments through our sweet treats.
“It’s clear that after nearly 30 years away, people loved the return of the Marathon bar last year.
“When the British public speaks, we always aim to deliver,” said David Manzini, general manager at Mars Wrigley UK, about the limited edition bar.
