Make-up artists kicks off acne acceptance movement by turning her spots into beautiful stars
This year has seen a confidence-boosting movement towards the encouraging of acne acceptance.
Earlier this year a model who suffers from breakouts launched the #FreeThePimple campaign to encourage people to share photos of their spots.
And back in January Kendall Jenner shut down acne-shamers in spectacular style after trolls criticised her for appearing at the Golden Globes with her facial blemishes on show.
The latest burst of skin positivity comes from Rocio Cervantes, a 25-year-old makeup artist and vlogger.
Rocio is fast gaining Insta fans for her refreshing attitude towards her acne. Instead of trying to cover her spots and blemishes Rocio is positively embracing hers, turning them into beautiful stars.

Rocio Cervantes posted photos to her social media channels showing off the inspiring make-up look, which was achieved by putting star-shaped stickers on her face and applying foundation over the top, then peeling the stickers off to reveal her skin underneath.
On Instagram the make up artist explained the star concept was something she’d been considering for a while.
“Last night I was thinking how it would be if I didn’t have acne what I would look like and afterwards I was so ashamed of myself for thinking that because I am beautiful so I hope anyone dealing with anything whether it be acne or not knows that they will get through it,” she wrote in a caption alongside images of her star covered face.
Rocio often uses her social media platform to discuss the impact her skin has on her confidence.
“I’ve been dealing with a lot of breakouts that cause me to not be able to put on makeup for days or even weeks it’s very stressful, depressing and sad because I am so passionate about makeup and putting out content for y’all!” she wrote in one post alongside a picture of her make-up free face.
She went on to explain that she’s been dealing with acne since she was 17, and is seeing a cognitive therapist to help her stop picking at her face.
“I thought I would take y’all on my journey something like acne vlogs the depression, anxiety, stress, social anxiety, treatments and all that comes with dealing with acne I wish this was more talked about and I wish acne was normalized so I hope by continuously showing myself it comforts someone else going through the same,” she wrote.
And it certainly seems to have had the desired effect as the response to her skin-embracing posts has been hugely positive.
“Ahhh girl!! You will get through this you are beautiful and amazing for creating a post like this!!” one user wrote on Instagram. “I dealt with acne myself not only did it hurt me mentally but it was physical painful. This is so creative and selfless.”
“This is amazing! It makes me wanna do makeup again. I had kinda stopped because I compared my skin to others. Thank you for gaining my confidence,” another commented.
“Keep your head up girl. I have major face scaring from acne and picking. I feel you. U WILL GET THRU THIS. U will find the right thing and your skin will improve just don’t let it beat you down,” yet another fan wrote.

For Rocio turning her spots into stars is the make-up artist’s latest way to encourage people to accept their acne by proving that spots are not a barrier to beauty.
“I am so pleased because I’ve had several people message me telling me how it’s helped them be more confident and that’s all I want,” she said.
“I want people to know they are beautiful, they don’t have to hide or put their head down when they go out or cancel plans because of some acne.
“Acne should be normalised and that’s what I strive to do every day, break the boundaries in beauty!”
