Laurence Fox criticises celebrities for wearing 'erotic' black dresses in support of Time’s Up

British actor Laurence Fox has criticised attendees at last year’s Golden Globes awards ceremony for wearing “revealing” black dresses.

The 41-year-old actor and musician was commenting on the decision by a number of actors at last year’s Golden Globes to wear black outfits in solidarity with the Time’s Up movement.

Stars including Reese Witherspoon, Jessica Chastain, Emma Stone and Meryl Streep opted to wear black in protest of sexual harassment in Hollywood and beyond.

Fox, who has two children with singer and actor Billie Piper, made the comments while reflecting on the inspiration behind a new song, entitled ‘Dead In The Eye’, in an interview with the Sunday Times.

The song forms part of Fox’s latest album, ‘A Grief Observed’.

The song lyrics include the line: “Look at you in your plunging neckline . . . is it your righteous calling, to teach me how to hold my tongue?”

He was motivated to write the song after seeing the allegedly “erotic” nature of some of the actor’s dress choices.

“These people are very aware of the erotic nature of their costume yet totally unaware of the hypocrisy of the message. It’s not really a very musical subject matter, is it?,” he told the publication.

He had originally wanted to call his song ‘Me Too’ but was blocked from doing so by his record label, he revealed in the interview.

He also hit out at the 100 fellow actors who recently chose to sign an open letter in support of Extinction Rebellion, not sparing a breath before criticising the Duke and Duchess of Sussex too for the controversy surrounding their private jet usage.

“You’re just like, ‘F*** off!’ Why is no one saying to them, ‘Don’t say it’? Or look at Prince Harry and Meghan: they’re ultra-woke, but when they’re on their little private jet they don’t think it’s bad. I cannot deal with the hypocrisy,” he said.
