Kirstie Allsopp has no regrets she smashed her children's iPads
Kirstie Allsopp says she does not regret smashing her kids’ iPads earlier this year.
The 27-year-old television presenter hit headlines last July when she admitted to destroying her children’s iPads after they broke her rules around screen time.
She was criticised heavily on Twitter for breaking the devices, which can cost from £250 to £800 each.
However, addressing the now infamous incident in conversation with Piers Morgan on ‘Good Morning Britain’, Kirstie has spoken of the benefits of her actions.
She explained: “The reality was pretty fantastic. I feel a bit boring for saying that but we had a much better summer because all the negotiation had gone because the iPads had gone.”
“They couldn’t say, ‘Oh I’ll help with this if you let me do half an hour of Fortnite’. We just did a lot more.”
“They got back into the roller blades and skateboards and books.”
When Piers asked if she had bought her children Bay, 12, and Oscar, 10, new iPads, Kirstie said: “No. I haven’t replaced them.”
While many may take issue with Kirstie’s methodology, her concerns around screen time are shared by parents globally.
A study published last month found children as young as two could be at risk of mental health issues caused by using their devices and previous research has proven that over two hours a day of recreational screen time could seriously affect a child’s learning.
