Kim Kardashian's attitude towards children wearing make-up may surprise you
The age-old debate of when parents should allow their kids to start wearing make-up rages on.
While some are criticised for allowing their daughters to experiment (we’re looking at you, Katie Price), others are praised for letting their children play around with beauty.
Kim Kardashian is one mum who you might expect would let her daughter try make-up.
And she will but not until a later age than some.
The reality star and businesswoman appeared alongside mega-famous YouTuber Desi Perkins for a recent make-up tutorial.
In the video, Desi asked Kim what age she would allow four-year-old North to begin putting on make-up.
Kim didn’t have to think, replying: “Probably 12.”
She revealed that 12 was the age she “started to get into it.” She also mentioned that her early make-up lessons (bought as a gift from her late father) still influence her beauty looks today.
“When I was 14, my dad got me make-up lessons and they video taped it and showed us how to put on liner and lashes,” she began. “They were really just into actual contour and concealer, all kind of nude monochromatic looks, which is so my vibe and probably why I like the kind of make-up that I like.”
Kim isn’t the only famous mum to speak openly about make-up and children.
In 2013, Victoria Beckham admitted that she didn’t put on make-up in front of then one-year-old Harper as she wanted her to remain a tomboy instead of copying her more glamorous mum.
However, things seemed to have changed in the Beckham household. Last year, the fashion designer said on This Morning that six-year-old Harper now “loves beauty” and “loves to play with make-up.”
Earlier this year, news arose that Beyonce’s daughter, five-year-old Blue Ivy, was launching her own cosmetics line. But the world-famous singer doesn’t want her daughter to grow up being beauty-obsessed.
“My biggest thing is to teach [Blue] not to focus on the aesthetic,” she told People. “It’s really about who you are, and the human being, that makes you beautiful.”
