Kim Kardashian's new fragrances make £10.5m in under a week
You’ve most likely heard the news that reality star turned businesswoman Kim Kardashian has released three new fragrances. The floral scents managed to sell out within a week, netting the reality star and business mogul a cool £10.5 million. (Don’t worry, she’s restocking them soon.)
Kim may just be the face needed to reinvigorate the celebrity perfume market. Figures by National Purchase Diary revealed that sales of celebrity fragrances had dropped by 22% in 2016, losing £12 million in the UK.
The celebrity scent trend started with Sophia Loren who is named as the first famous face to have her own perfume: 1981’s Sophia by Coty.
Elizabeth Taylor was next, creating a billion dollar empire from just a few fragrances with Jennifer Lopez kickstarting a real trend in 2004 with the launch of her first scent, Glow. Britney Spears, too, managed to create an empire that earns her £37.5 million a year to this very day.
Now, plenty of celebs have their own fragrance from teen heartthrob Justin Bieber to pop sensation Rihanna and even actor Antonio Banderas.
Here are some of the most successful celebrity fragrances in history.
