Royals on tour: The Duchess of Cambridge's best work trip outfits
Since joining the royal family in 2011, the Duchess of Cambridge has toured Canada, India, Bhutan, Australia, Singapore, New Zealand, Luxembourg and more on behalf of Britain. She racked up some more air miles last year with a trip to Poland and Germany, which Prince George and Princess Charlotte also went on.
But an upcoming royal tour, which the pregnant royal will embark on tonight, will see Kate visit Norway and Sweden on official state business for the first time.
Kate will travel with Prince William for the four-day tour, which is taking place at the request of The Foreign and Commonwealth Office.
William and Kate will kick off the royal tour on Tuesday 30 January with a visit to Vasaparken, an outdoor ice skating rink, to watch a bandy hockey event. They’ll lunch at the Royal Palace with King Carl XVI Gustaf and Queen Silvia, visit the Nobel museum and stop off at the Ark Des museum. A black tie dinner at the residence of the British Ambassador will complete the day.
The duo will start day two with a visit to the Karolinska Institute. They’ll then head to a comprehensive school, visit NK – one of the country’s largest department stores – and pay a visit to Haga Palace, where they’ll be treated to tea with Prince David and Princess Victoria. Day two will end with a glittering reception at the Fotografiska Gallery.
The Duke and Duchess will start day three of their trip with a flight to Oslo, Norway. There, they’ll join Norwegian royals for lunch before visiting the Princess Ingrid Alexandra Sculpture park. After the park, they’ll attend an event at a co-working space for start-up companies. Kate and Wills will don their glad rags once again for a dinner with the Norwegian royals.
The final day of the tour will start at the Hartvig Nissen School, where Norwegian TV show ‘Skam’ was filmed. They’ll lunch with The Crown Prince and Princess of Norway. Finally, they’ll visit Holemnkollen, the snow-capped hills that overlook Oslo, before heading home to London.
So, what can we expect Kate to pack? The mum-of-two is known for dressing very appropriately when abroad and often gives a cultural nod to countries by wearing pieces by local designers. For example, during a visit to the Taj Mahal, the royal dressed in a piece by Indian-American designer Naeem Khan. And a game of cricket in a park in Mumbai saw Kate don a dress by Anita Dongre, another Indian designer.
We can expect to see the Duchess arrive in Sweden dressed in blue or gold, the country’s national colours, and red, white and blue in Norway. We also anticipate to spot a number of the Duchess’ favourite maternity pieces.
