Sustainability has filled news headlines this year, but it’s also impacted our shopping.
According to John Lewis & Partners' annual retail report, eco-friendly products have proved to be one of the biggest shopping trends of the past 12 months.
Thanks to climate activist Greta Thunberg, as well as the global environmental movement Extinction Rebellion, the nation’s increasing concern for environmental changes has never been stronger.
In 2019, Glastonbury Festival made the decision to ban single-use plastic bottles for the first time, meanwhile Zara, Adidas, and other key retailers have pledged to use only recycled plastic by 2024.

The Government also announced in 2019 a forthcoming ban on sales of plastic straws, cotton buds and drink stirrers in England.
Consequently, sustainable products have become not only a mindful choice, but a must-have.
The retail sector has seen huge shift over the past 12 months in order to keep up with the increase in demand for eco-friendly products.
Reusable straws soared in popularity at John Lewis this year, increasing sales by 1,573% - proving that consumers are actively embracing the eco-friendly changes. Meanwhile, portable cutlery also increased by 176%.
Within the last year, the retailer have also launched collapsible coffee cups, reusable travel cutlery and reusable beeswax sandwich wrappers in order to meet demand for plastic-free everyday essentials.

Reusable water bottles have also continued to be popular. The brand saw sales increase 15% the week before Glastonbury, as well as customers purchasing a range of bottles in different sizes and styles to fit in with their day-to-day activities.
