John Legend Sticks Up For Wife Chrissy Teigen, Asks Haters To Dad-Shame Him

While she’s clearly relishing life as a new mum, Chrissy Teigen has come in for some pretty harsh flack since welcoming baby daughter, Luna Simone last month. But her husband, John Legend has had enough of it. The new dad is so fed up with people criticising his wife’s parenting skills that he’s hit back by asking people to dad shame him too!
For it seems that whatever parenting decision Chrissy makes is met with criticism. When the couple were photographed going out to dinner a week after giving birth (You know, because no parent has needed a few hours break after giving birth) the model was bombarded with comments from people slamming her for leaving the baby. Sharing a screen shot of some of the hate-fuelled comments to give an idea of the extent of the shaming Chrissy tweeted: “I went to dinner. People are pissed. Good morning!”

Of course John received no such comments and he’s pretty unhappy about the double parenting standards. Taking to Twitter earlier this week he wrote to his 7.8 million followers.
“Funny there’s no dad-shaming. When both of us go out to dinner, shame both of us so Chrissy doesn’t have to take it all. We’ll split it."
And social media was quick to praise the new dad for sticking up for his baby mama.
“You’re so sweet. Unfortunately the majority are women bashing and shaming other women. Very sad,” wrote one woman.
“Thank you for addressing the lack of dad shaming. New parents, male or female have the same responsibility. Adult time is needed,” added another.
“It is SO important to have time as a couple after babies come. No shame in that at all,” agreed one tweeter.

Others didn’t think there should be any shaming at all.
“Don’t accept the shaming game for either of you. No one can parent your child better than you,” wrote one user.
“Shouldn’t be ANY shaming. Mum’s need breaks too. Makes us better mums, better wives, better souls,” added another.
Since posting the tweet has been liked over 25K times and retweeted 7.8K times.
It isn’t the first time Chrissy has faced criticism over her parenting choices. She shared a picture of her cradling her newborn, and people accused her of attention seeking. John shared a picture of his newborn and was praised for being a good dad. It seems that new mums just can’t win.

In many modern families the parenting duties are often split equally, but it’s always mums who are hauled up in front of the firing squad. Bottle feeding? Didn’t you know breast is best. Date night? You mean you’re not staying home to gaze adoringly at your baby while she sleeps. What a terrible mother!
Parenting double standards may not be anything new. But dad’s acknowledging how absurd and unfair it is for the hate to be directed towards the mum is sort of new. So big props to John Legend for standing up for his lady and even bigger props to his wife, for not letting the trolls get to her in the first place.
