Jodie Comer's 'Brazilian supermodel' blowout is a lesson in laidback glamour
When it comes to her beauty, Jodie Comer has nailed the art of understated polish. The actress, who works closely with the decorated hairstylist Sam McKnight, is often seen with her hair in soft waves – with enough texture for a lived-in effect that still looks elegant.
At this week's Bazaar Women of the Year Awards, Comer once again collaborated with McKnight on her look, which was inspired by both McKnight's own work and her sparkly black mini dress from 16Arlington.
"Jodie had seen the look I created for the 16Arlington SS25 runway show and loved it," McKnight tells Bazaar. "She is wearing 16Arlington from the same collection and it felt right for the evening."
The duo went for a supermodel blowout (a McKnight specialty), inspired by Brazilian models in the early noughties. Instead of an extra-voluminous, 'done' style, this interpretation is decidedly cooler and more modern, with a softer, low-key finish that complements the dress.
To achieve the look, McKnight started by misting the Hair by Sam McKnight Superlift Root Volumising Spray through Comer's roots before blow-drying her hair, "lifting each section up for root lift and volume." Once each section is dry, McKnight "misted it with Modern Hairspray before rolling onto a medium Velcro roller, repeating through her whole head," he shares.
While there is a place for heated curlers, the Velcro roller technique remains a go-to for stylists for its ability to deliver body, movement and volume to the hair while maintaining a long-lasting style. McKnight then left the rollers in to cool down, as Comer moved on to make-up. Her sixties-inspired taupe eye and feline flick lent drama to the overall beauty vibe.
"Once the make-up is done, we took out the rollers, Jodie tipped her head upside down and we misted her hair with Cool Girl Texture Mist."
The mood with Comer is always "calm" and "fun" shares McKnight, so it's no surprise that the final beauty results are equally joyous.
Comer was in attendance at this year's award to present the award for Sportswoman of the Year to her close friend, the Olympic athlete Katarina Johnson-Thompson.
