From Jennifer Lopez to Emma Watson, celebrities get real about their pubic hair

Pubic hair is a divisive topic for most of us, celebrities included.

Sometimes it can seem like everyone is getting rid, in fact, according to a survey conducted by Cosmopolitan, over half (57%) of women go hairless down there and 25% of women keeping theirs trimmed – leaving just 6% who go au natural.

Thankfully, plenty of celebrities have spoken out honestly in the past about their pubic hair choices, lending themselves to either side of the debate. Whether it’s a full bush or a total wipe-out, there are plenty of advocates for either approach in the celebrity world.

Earlier this year, actress Thandie Newton said on the Graham Norton show she leaves her pubic hair to grow naturally, explaining how she didn’t require a merkin (pubic hair wig) during the filming of her HBO series ‘Westworld’ “because I don’t alter anything. Full ’70s bush.”

Last year, Ashley Graham also flew the flag for pubic hair in an interview with Glamour, telling the publication: “Honey, I have a full bush. Period. It’s about your preference and your partner’s preference.”

Emma Watson, meanwhile, subtly alluded to her pubic hair during a conversation with Into The Gloss about cult product Fur Oil.

US actress (and former ‘Dawson’s Creek’ star) Busy Philips also weighed in on the debate on Amanda de Cadenet’s show ‘The Conversation’ in 2013. She explaining giving birth to a daughter changed her whole approach to pubic hair.

“After I had my daughter I had this real epiphany,” she said at the time. “I felt like it would be really fucking weird if I had no hair on my vagina, because I have a little girl and I want her to look at me and think that grown women have hair on their vaginas!”

Other celebrities have let their pubes do the talking. For instance, in 2013, Miley Cyrus posted a picture on Instagram showing a hint of dyed-pink pubes, captioned simply: “PANK”. In the same year, Lady Gaga appeared on the front of Candy magazine with her hair on show.

A wealth whole host of other celebrities have joined the smooth brigade. Kate Winslet told Allure she had to wear a merkin for her role in ‘The Reader’, after constant waxing.

“I had to grow the hair down there. But because of years of waxing, as all of us girls know, it doesn’t come back quite the way it used to. They even made me a merkin — a wig — because they were so concerned that I might not be able to grow enough.”

Kim Kardashian has admitted to lasering all of hers off. She told People: “I am Armenian, so of course I am obsessed with laser hair removal! Arms, bikini, legs, underarms…my entire body is hairless.”

J.Lo has also spoken about her body hair, telling Allure she “shaves everywhere” but avoids the painful business of waxing: “I don’t love waxing. I just don’t like everybody… up in the business, you know what I mean? I shave everywhere; the only thing I wax is my eyebrows. It’s torture plucking the hairs out one by one.”

Similarly, Chrissy Teigen is part of the shaving brigade, telling Allure in 2015: ““Waxing for a shoot? Are you kidding? I shave my whole body every day. It’s exhausting. Trust me. It’s gotten to the point where it takes up more of my life than anything else.”
