"I didn't have a waist when I was 27 and I'm 57 now": Lorraine Kelly talks weight loss and body confidence
There’s no two ways about it. Lorraine Kelly is looking better than ever at the moment. The 57-year-old morning TV presenter is quite literally glowing – and that’s all down to her fitness regime and new-found confidence, she says.
While Lorraine stresses she’s never felt any pressure to lose weight or look a certain way (“One of the joys of working for breakfast telly is even when I was at my biggest, even when I was wearing things that frankly I should have been arrested for, nobody ever did (arrest me). It’s pressure from yourself I think,” she says), the presenter made a real effort to get fit last year.
Joining the energetic dance class of London-based fitness pro Maxine Jones, Lorraine quickly shed some pounds and toned up.
“To be honest with you for me I didn’t do that much exercise before, it wasn’t until I met Maxine about three years ago, that I found exercise that I love,” she told Yahoo Style UK. “When you feel better about yourself and you feel more confident, you wear things that you probably wouldn’t have worn before. I mean, I’ve got a waist! I didn’t have a waist when I was 27 and I’m 57 now. That’s an amazing breakthrough. I can wear sleeveless tops on the telly! That’s something that’s just astonishing.”
In addition to her wardrobe for her TV programme, Lorraine’s red carpet style has changed, too. Nowadays, she’s a big fan of slinky, form-fitting dresses that flaunt her figure. She hit headlines at The Sun newspaper’s awards in December, thanks to the beautiful, ombre sequin dress she arrived wearing.
But it’s not just her outward appearance that has lifted Lorraine’s spirits. “I’ve got more energy. It’s not just about how you feel physically, it’s mentally as well. It’s just great, it’s a fantastic stress buster and sometimes I go and I feel tired and stressed, and I come out of there like a new woman. I just feel so much better,” she says.
Lorraine’s encouraging other women to discover their ‘brand new you‘ with the launch of her new fitness DVD – her second partnership with Maxine. She acknowledges that exercises classes are expensive and can be tricky to weave into a woman’s busy schedule, so says her DVD, which claims to help women blitz the jelly belly, work the legs and tone the bingo wings, is “designed for ordinary women wanting to get fit and tone up but have some fun whilst doing it.”
