Actress Hilary Swank was arguably the most famous guest at the Melbourne Cup and was flown in for the occasion, but there are very few photos of the Hollywood star at the event.

Why? According to The Daily Telegraph, the actress’ outfit choice caused something of a stir.

Swank donned an ensemble from Australian department store David Jones for the occasion, which is rumoured to have ruffled a few feathers as rival company Myer sponsored the event.

The Australian newspaper reports that racing officials vetoed a photograph of Swank holding the Melbourne Cup because of she was dressed in a backless jumpsuit from designer brand Christopher Esber – a label that’s stocked in David Jones and not Myer.

Meanwhile, plenty of pics of “Made In Chelsea” star Millie Mackintosh holding the cup are doing the rounds.

The 26-year-old reality star looked lovely in a black off-the-shoulder dress by Australian designer Camilla and Marc, which incidentally is stocked in Myer.

Mackintosh also donned a striking Stephen Jones hat for the occasion and posed for a picture with the designer himself, which she posted on Instagram.

Whatever ongoing arguments are or aren’t taking place, Swank appeared to enjoy her trip down under.

“I’ve never been (to a horse race), this is my very first time,” the 41-year-old told The Daily Telegraph. “So far I’ve seen nothing but umbrellas, it’s a slew of umbrellas out there. I’m really happy to be here. It’s definitely a prestigious event and when my friends heard I was going, they were very jealous.”
