Helen Skelton told to leave playground after son's tantrum: "Worst day of my parenting life"

It’s what causes parents the greatest angst. The moment your toddler has PM (that’s Public Meltdown) so epic you’re forced, or sometimes even asked to vacate the building. That’s exactly what happened to TV presenter Helen Skelton, who took to social media to admit that she’d had the “worst day of her parenting life” on Monday after being asked to leave a playgroup when her son, Ernie, had a screaming fit.

Sharing the story to her 47.3K Instagram followers, the 33-year-old ,who is currently pregnant with her second child, explained that she was asked to leave, after her 19 month old son failed to settle.

The presenter who now lives in France with her rugby player husband, Richie Myler, had initially shared a sweet snap of her little one walking into his new playgroup, admitting she was nervous about his first day.

“French play group …. let’s do this …. why do I feel sick ….. #nervousparent #family #mum #toddler #childcare #school #family,” she wrote in the caption for the shot.

But just 20 minutes later Helen was back in the car with little Ernie after he “screamed the place down”.

“Worst day of my parenting life. Asked to leave after 20 mins,” she wrote alongside a picture of them travelling back home in the car. “Screamed the place down screaming his version of ‘mama let’s go!’ Constantly. #parentfail #kidswinning #mumfail #childcare.”

The BBC presenter moved to Perpignan with her husband and young son in 2015, because Myler plays for rugby league side Catalan Dragons.

The couple recently took to social media to reveal that they are expecting their second child together. Sharing a sweet snap of little Ernie holding a sign which read: “Ready for my partner in crime. Due Spring 2017”, Helen captioned the shot: “Three getting set to become four.”

She later shared a picture of herself with her husband and Ernie alongside the caption: “New baby.”

Helen’s refreshingly honest post about her son’s meltdown has been flooded with messages of support from other parents.

“Definitely not a “parent fail”, just normal parenting and you are not alone,” wrote one mum.

“We have all been there,” added another. “It’s good of you to share, thank you. We are all human. We all have parenting doubts even when they older. Onwards and upwards.”

“It’s all part of the tough job that we have as parents…but we are equally fortunate to have such a great job. Take strength from all of us who say it’s normal…tomorrow is another day.”

After sharing the incident to social media earlier this week, Helen has been shocked by the attention it has garnered and has since returned to clarify that she wanted to take responsibility for what happened. “Wow storm in a tea cup: we love the French crèche. Staff are superb! Can’t account for a toddler mood sometimes! My fault not theirs xx,” she wrote.
