Helen Mirren praises Meghan Markle for 'admirable' handling of royal fame
Dame Helen Mirren has praised the Duchess of Sussex for handling the pressure of joining the royal family with admirable “elegance”.
During a guest appearance on ‘Good Morning Britain’ earlier today, the actress – who famously played Queen Elizabeth II in ‘The Queen’ back in 2007 – had nothing but praise for the mum-to-be.
“I think right from the moment that relationship was revealed – she’s conducted herself with incredible self-restraint, elegance, discipline, simplicity and humanity,” the 73-year-old revealed.
“I was an admirer… it’s an incredibly difficult life to lead, talk about pressure. I think she is doing it with great elegance.”
Further proving her close relationship with the Windsor clan, Mirren also opened up about Prince Harry during the interview revealing that he once referred to her as “granny”.
“Harry and William have mentioned it to me and have been very funny and very cool about it,” she said. “I think Harry was at an awards ceremony and he said ‘granny is here’.”
Mirren joked: “I was rather insulted by that. I mean, really!”
This morning, the Duchess of Sussex carried out her latest royal engagement at the Association of Commonwealth Universities in London.

The 37-year-old braved the capital’s plunging temperatures in a slick black Givenchy coat and eschewed her go-to messy bun in favour of a regal updo.
