Gwyneth Paltrow made a case for sleepwear during the day this week in a canary yellow satin PJ set that revealed her toned abs.

The actor wore an unbuttoned silk shirt, cropped trousers and bralette from silk pyjama label Olivia von Halle to a Goop event, which drew the gaze to Paltrow's enviable core. At 49, she's undeniably fit and youthful - a result of a lot of hard work (and, arguably, good genes).

But working out doesn't always come easy - even to someone who's well-known for being passionate about treating your body well.

"I like feeling good, and I know I feel my best when I exercise," she previously told Women's Health. "But it depends on the day—I definitely don't always feel like doing it. I've made it a habit, just like brushing your teeth. That's how you have to look at it."

And it seems much of it is down to one method in particular. "I've been a Tracy Anderson fanatic for over a decade, I'm an investor in her company, so yeah, I go every morning," Paltrow said.

"I drop the kids at school, work out, go to work. I've been supplementing it a bit with lifting heavier weights lately, to deal with some lower-back-pain issues. You can't bottle a great workout."

The Tracy Anderson method, as per its website, promises, 'Fitness pioneer Tracy Anderson’s revolutionary method can give anyone—regardless of their genetic shape— strong, lean muscles and create balance where there is imbalance in their body.'

Paltrow has even credited Anderson as her "favourite dance partner of all time", sharing a video of the pair working out (or dancing) to blasting music together. "Thanks for somehow keeping me motivated after all these years," she wrote.

Back in 2020, Paltrow told Harper's Bazaar that the first thing she does when she wakes up is "oil pulling" with coconut oil. The ancient practice involves having a spoonful of the raw oil to help "remove bacteria from the mouth". She chases this with a large glass or two of water and some coffee.

"I'm not a big breakfast person," said Paltrow. "I'll eat brunch sometimes late on a weekend. But, after I take my kids to school, I go straight to the gum, and I always have a big thing of water at the gym and I put two of our Goop Glows in there for Vitamin C and skin....it's like my morning orange juice."

Then later in the day, after going to the office, she'll get a smoothie. "So sometimes I'll have like a cacao and almond butter smoothie with some spinach and some protein power, or some peanut butter protein bars."

If hungover, which she says is occasional, she'll 'try to eat something like an egg sandwich'.

Paltrow usually has lunch at about 12 - 12.30, often something from her wellness company, Goop, such as a salad with protein, or clean versions of taco shells or burgers.

"Usually at about three or four I'll hit the snack office at the Goop... maybe I'll have some cashews or pretzels. Usually I'll need something salty and crunchy.... and then I'll usually have a cup of green tea with that," she said.

And for dinner it might be Asian food. She also loves French fries and pasta, as well as some other staples she loves experimenting with and sharing on her Instagram.

Recent meals she's proudly shared include fried eggs on a bed of scallions and kale from the garden and paleo banana pancakes, a paleo crepe (pre fried eggs), green shakshuka with avocado and lime and a skillet of Swiss chard with caramelised onions and breakfast sausage, garlic roast potatoes and fried eggs. Yum.

But while this also sounds delicious, she's not afraid to try what some might consider a little more extreme, including the G.Tox 7-Day Reset Kit, which the Goop website says is designed to 'give you the tools to do a nourishing weeklong elimination program with ease'.

Testing out the 'filling superfood cereal blend', 'clean plant-based protein powder', and 'recipe guide', Paltrow documented her experience on Instagram.

The clips feature her trying out the protein powder ("I've done enough shots of Jäger in my life that this won't be so bad," she says before swigging it a), relaxing in a sauna and cooking salmon with greens and lots of dressing.

"It’s all about nourishment, eating real, delicious food, and taking time to slow down," her caption reads in part.

It seems that while she tries to avoid processed foods and indulging too much, there's some balance. When trainer Anderson was asked who eats cleaner by Catt Sadler for her blog thecattwalk, she replied,"Oh, that is a tie!"

"There are moments that she goes cleaner than I ever desire to go these days but there are moments, like I was a raw foodist for a year when she was eating french fries regularly so I don’t know!," she explained.

"We’ve known each other for a very long time so we’ve each had our moments but I think right now both of us are pretty balanced. We’re not too healthy and not too unhealthy either."
