Greta Thunberg is a ‘punchy choice’ to include on the Duchess of Sussex’s British Vogue cover, according to one royal commentator.

The 16-year-old climate activist was one of 15 women chosen by Meghan to feature on the front of the September issue.

The duchess and Vogue’s editor-in-chief Edward Enninful named the edition and its cover stars “Forces for Change.”

Speaking on Yahoo UK’s ‘The Royal Box,’ Roya Nikkhah, royal correspondent for The Sunday Times says: “I know she’s [Greta] the poster girl at the moment of the environmental and climate discussions, but she’s a political figure, she’s a very political figure, there’s no two ways about it.

“I think that by putting her on there sends a very strong message from the editorial stance and from Meghan.

“We know they [Harry and Meghan] are conservationists, we know they’re very interested in the environment, we know that from their Instagram posts, from the speeches that both of them give, but Greta Thunberg and the Extinction Rebellion movement that we saw here over the summer was pretty divisive, it rammed home into the sphere of politics, that’s a punchy thing to choose.”

In August 2018, the Swedish teenager Greta Thunberg stopped attending school in Stockholm and began a protest outside the Swedish Parliament to draw political attention to climate change.

The strike by the 16-year-old sparked similar action by pupils across the world.

Thunberg joined climate change protests by Extinction Rebellion in London, in April, and was welcomed to the Houses of Parliament where she addressed MPs.
