Going 'veggan' is the next big thing
First there were vegetarians and vegans. Then pescetarians, fruitarians, and then flexitarians.
The first two we totally got our heads around (no meat, no animal products – got it) but then things started getting a little more confusing.
And now, there’s yet another addition to the dietary family – veggans.
As well as how to pronounce ‘veggans’, it’s hard to figure out what term actually means.
Essentially, it’s a vegan diet – no meat, no dairy products, no animal by-products – but you’re allowed to eat eggs. Only exception.
A little like being a flexitarian (flexible vegetarians), it’s for people that totally into the concept of veganism only they struggle to cut absolutely everything out and so give themselves some leeway.
And being able to eat eggs is a pretty easy way of getting protein into a vegan diet, which can be tricky at times.
They’re also packed with vitamin D, iron and vitamin B12.
Understandably, the concept hasn’t gone down well with some vegans, who believe the lifestyle choice is about prioritising ethics rather than human health.
And vegganism does sound rather similar to vegetarianism.
But on the other hand, isn’t reducing the amount of animal exploitation in your diet better than nothing at all?
