The baby names that could hint at your child's future success

When it comes to choosing a baby name parents-to-be will often look to external sources for inspo – celebrities, eras gone by, Game of Thrones.

But while picking a moniker you love (and won’t regret) is obviously important, turns out some names can actually impact how successful your baby will be in later life.

A study carried out by Grosvenor Casinos, and reported by The Sun, has found two thirds of British people think a first name has an impact on how far you’ll go in life.

Top of the power names were William and Victoria, with 37.8 per cent of survey participants believing these were the most successful names.

Sneaking into a close second was George (37.3 per cent), no doubt after his royal cuteness, and third place went to Elizabeth (36.3 per cent).

Also making the top five were Richard and Alexander (32 per cent) and Thomas (28.1 per cent).

When it comes to how you are perceived, nearly half of Brits (46 per cent) think that sharing a name with a historical figure can boost your success rate in life.

So it’s unlikely to be a coincidence that names William, Victoria, Elizabeth, George and Harry can all be linked to the royal family.

And almost a third (30 per cent) of those surveyed believe that sharing a name with a celebrity can boost your success simply by association.

Hardly surprising therefore that both Beckham first names appear in the top ten most successful names.

When asked about their own monikers, more than two in five Brits believe their first name has played a role in how successful they have been.

And just over a fifth (21 per cent) would opt to change theirs because they think it’s “too common”.

Meanwhile 20 per cent said they wanted to pick a new name due to people not knowing how to pronounce theirs.

Commenting on the findings Head of brand for Grosvenor Casinos’, Caroline Webb said: “It’s so interesting to see what the nation considers to be a successful name.

“It does ask the question, if you are given one of these names, are you more primed for success in life?”

5. Thomas– 28.1 per cent

6. David– 27.8 per cent

7. Harry– 25.5 per cent

8. John– 24.2 per cent

9. Oliver– 23.1 per cent

10. Olivia– 18.6 per cent
