Best fish and chip shops in the UK announced
The shortlist for the National Fish & Chip Awards has been announced – but does your local favourite feature?
Fish and chips are considered one of the staple British meals – and few can deny the appeal of a crispy battered cod fillet, or a pile of hot chips doused in salt and vinegar.
It’s likely you’ll have firm opinions over where to get the best version of comfort grub too – perhaps you prefer one local to another based on superior portion sizes, or better tasting chips.
Maybe there’s a seaside spot you return back to every year because of its fresh fish.

But your tastes might be influenced by the latest list of top UK chippies. Ahead of the annual National Fish & Chip Awards, a shortlist of 20 UK based spots has been compiled with the winner to be announced on 23 January 2020.
It’s compiled by Seafish, a non-departmental public body in the United Kingdom sponsored by the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs. The first National Fish & Chip Award was awarded in 1988. Both fish & chip shops are eligible to enter.
Predictably, lots of seaside locations made it on the final shortlist, including Rockfish in Devon and Hooked@31 in Fishguard, Pembrokeshire.
