"I don't know what my tits have to do with it": Emma Watson stunned by reaction to topless Vanity Fair shoot
Emma Watson has been doing the publicity rounds for her latest film, Beauty and the Beast. So the announcement that she was Vanity Fair‘s newest cover star barely raised an eyebrow.
The actress appears in an artistic shoot by Tim Walker and discusses her transformation from child star to Hollywood heavyweight and passionate feminist.
But one shot featuring the 26-year-old in nothing but a white Burberry cape has outraged some. The image, which reveals the outline of Emma’s breasts, was deemed ‘anti-feminist’ and against everything that the actress stood for.
In a BBC interview, Emma refused to stay quiet on the topic, firmly stating: “Feminism is about giving women choice. Feminism is not a stick with which to beat other women. It’s about freedom, it’s about liberation, it’s about equality. I really don’t know what my tits have to do with it.”
“It just always reveals to me how many misconceptions and what a misunderstanding there is about what feminism is.”
And she’s right. Plenty of celebrities have been blasted for choosing to feature nude on magazine covers with the somewhat outdated view that you cannot be both a feminist and show off your body.
As Emma said, feminism is about choice and as long as full consent was given, all women – both famous and not – should be celebrated for however they choose to display themselves and their body.
