A father has been heavily criticised online after suggesting that baby formula should come out of his wife’s budget.

In a now-deleted Reddit post, the man explained that the mother has stopped breastfeeding after six months and is now switching to formula as she “feels done” despite having “plenty of milk and everything”.

The divisive post reads, “I think if she wants to stop for basically no reason then the money for the formula should come out of her personal spending money because she is the one making the decision.”

“She says I’m an a**hole and it should come out of the family/grocery budget (which is already tight) even though I don’t have a say,” he added.

But after reading his question on the online forum, social media users were less than impressed.

One Twitter user screenshot the father’s Reddit post alongside the caption: “Take all the food out of the house and tell him to get fed on his own body”.

The tweet soon amassed over 2,447 likes with fellow users criticising the dad.

Some suggested the mother switching all of the dairy products in the house to breastmilk alternatives if he wants to save money so much:

While some mums points out that breastfeeding can be painful for a large number of women due to mastitis – a condition which causes a mother’s breast tissue to become inflamed.

Others suggested that the new mum send him an invoice for the hours she’s already put into motherhood with one joking that there should be an extra charge for his gaslighting.
