Edward Enninful is the new editor of British Vogue

Alexandra Shulman’s replacement at British Vogue has been announced.
One of the fashion industry’s most well-liked figures is taking her place as the new editor-in-chief of the publication. Edward Enninful will take on the role from 1 August.
Edward has been a long-standing figure in the world of fashion. He is currently fashion and creative director of W Magazine; a role he has held since 2011.

Born in Ghana, his fashion career began when he was scouted to be a model at the age of 16. He then met founders of style bible i-D, Terry and Trish Jones, later becoming the world’s youngest ever fashion director at only 18 years old.
Enninful is known for his provocative and forward-thinking concepts such as Vogue Italia‘s infamous ‘Black Issue’. The diverse cover was so successful that Condé Nast was forced to print an extra 40,000 copies.
Since then, he has developed a close friendship with supermodel Naomi Campbell and has consulted on campaigns for major brands including Dior, Fendi, Gucci and Calvin Klein.

Last October, he was awarded an OBE for services to diversity in the fashion industry. In fact, his appointment is already one of British Vogue‘s most diverse moves.
Enninful will not only be the first man to edit the magazine but the first black person to take the reins of the publication.
“Edward is one of the most talented and accomplished fashion editors in the world,” Condé Nast International chairman and chief executive Jonathan Newhouse stated. “He is an influential figure in the communities of fashion, Hollywood and music which shape the cultural zeitgeist.”
Alexandra Shulman resigned from the title in January after 25 years at the helm.
