EastEnders fans slam 'Christmas scheduling move' - then realise ‘reason’ why
It’s almost Christmas time, which means guaranteed drama in Albert Square. Each year on Christmas Day, EastEnders fans sit down to enjoy the latest bust ups, for a guaranteed drama filled episode. However, one potential revelation about this year’s festive episode has left fans fuming.
It's rumoured that the BBC willbe airing the EastEnders Christmas special at 10pm rather than the usual 9pm slot, leaving fans annoyed they’ll have to wait an extra hour. One even branded the decision 'diabolical,' however, some now think they’ve worked out the ‘reason why’ the broadcaster has seemingly decided to move the time slot.
“I want my EastEnders at 8pm then I can go to BED,” said one angry fan on X, formerly known as Twitter, over the scheduling rumours. Fans then took to Reddit to further discuss, as one suggested the potential move was down to watershed rules. “Logical explanation is that it needs to be past the watershed for some reason due to content,” they penned on the forum.

“They're gonna have something big planned, which I assume is not going to be good for pre 9pm viewing. 10pm is just coincidental cause of them fitting so too much in on days like xmas day,” they continued.
Another unbothered fan replied: “I go round my friends' for Christmas Dinner. I'm always either too drunk or passed out by the time Eastenders is on. It's not a Christmas tradition for me, it's a hungover boxing day tradition.”
“10pm??? That had better be worthwhile, not just trauma for Linda,” another wrote.
EastEnders have firmly kept their Christmas plans under wraps, as fans say the soap has a lot to ‘live up to’ after the hugely dramatic The Six storyline in Christmas 2023. Recently, the storyline came to ‘an end’ in dramatic leaving scenes for Nish Panesar, who took the rap for Keanu Taylor’s murder.
Navin Chowdhry’s emotional final scenes saw him being taken away in a police van while The Six, Suki, Stacey, Denise, Sharon, Kathy and Linda watched from outside the scene of the crime, The Queen Vic.
Earlier this year, paparazzi photographs were released of a funeral on the Square. In a shock revelation, actors Maddy Hill and Danny Hatchard were seen reprising their roles as siblings Nancy and Lee Carter in the mysterious funeral scenes. Elaine, Callum and Johnny were also seen at the scenes, with many fans fearing Linda may be making a heartbreaking exit from the show during Christmas.
This year’s Christmas episode will come just months before the soap's 40th anniversary, which will see a live episode broadcast. In addition, for the first time ever viewers will be invited to vote for their desired outcome of a love story, although it’s not yet been revealed who the characters involved will be.
