Meghan Markle dresses respectfully in headscarf to visit South Africa's oldest mosque
This afternoon, the Duchess of Sussex dressed respectfully in a headscarf to visit the Auwal Mosque in Bo Kaap, the first mosque to have been built in South Africa.
The 38-year-old arrived at the religious site, alongside Prince Harry, wearing a olive hued tie-belt maxi dress by US brand, Staud. The sustainable dress was made from recycled tissue nylon and is currently available to pre-order for £260.
She paired the dress with £85 flats from Sam Edelman and wore her hair loose in her signature waves under a cream scarf.
Prior to the engagement, Meghan changed out of her morning attire into a more appropriate ensemble that featured a cream headscarf - wrapped loosely around her shoulders.
It is considered respectful for non-Muslim women to cover their hair whilst visiting a mosque.
A woman’s chest, legs, shoulders and arms should also be covered up according to tradition - leaving the Duchess of Sussex’s ensemble slightly open to criticism.

Her decision to don a headscarf mirrors Princess Diana and the Duchess of Cambridge, who have famously worn the garment during overseas tours.
Former UK prime minister Theresa May, however, faced criticism after deciding against wearing a headscarf in Saudi Arabia in 2017. Melania and Ivanka Trump also hit headlines the same year after arriving in Riyadh with their heads uncovered.
Upon their arrival at the mosque, Meghan and Harry were greeted by Imam Sheikh Ismail Londt and Muslim community leader, Mohamed Groenwald.
During their visit, they met with people from different faith groups.
After meeting with religious leaders, they broke bread with a family in the community.
Tonight, the couple will glam up for an evening reception at the British High Commissioner’s residence in the city.
This morning, the new mother wore a more casual look to visit Waves For Change at Monwabisi Beach.
Demonstrating how to work denim-on-denim, Meghan met well-wishers in a £111 Madewell jacket and tan flats by sustainable African brand Brother Vellies.
A pair of Le Specs sunglasses completed the daytime ensemble.
