Another McQueen outfit for Duchess of Cambridge at Prince Louis' christening
The royal family celebrated Prince Louis of Cambridge’s christening at Chapel Royal in St James’s Palace.
For the intimate 40-minute ceremony, the Duchess of Cambridge sought inspiration from her previous looks in a cream-hued dress by go-to designer, Alexander McQueen.
To accessorise the v-neck number – which features striking ruched shoulders – the 36-year-old donned a co-ordinating vintage-esque headpiece by Jane Taylor.
It is the third time in which the royal has worn the same combination of labels, as she looked to the fashion houses for sartorial assistance prior to both Prince George and Princess Charlotte’s christenings.
The Duchess of Cambridge could be seen arriving at the chapel with eleven-week-old Prince Louis cradled in her arms. In keeping with tradition, the royal baby is wearing a replica of the now-famous Honiton gown for his big day.
His elder siblings, Prince George and Princess Charlotte, also wore the regal dress for their baptisms. It is a replica of the gown Queen Victoria commissioned for the christening of her eldest daughter, also named Victoria, back in 1841.

In total, the silk dress has been worn by 62 royal babies – and five monarchs – over the course of 163 years. Princes Harry and William famously donned the ruffled gown on their christening days.
The last royal to wear the original garment was Lady Louise Windsor at her 2004 baptism before Queen Elizabeth II reportedly requested a replica.
Prince George and Princess Charlotte have since worn the imitation on their big day alongside Zara and Mike Tindall’s eldest daughter, Mia.
Prince George’s 2013 christening
For the Duchess of Cambridge’s first born Prince George’s christening on 23 October 2013, the royal wore a cream-hued dress by go-to designer, Alexander McQueen.
She accessorised the ruffled regal look with a co-ordinating veil hat by Jane Taylor.
Princess Charlotte’s 2015 christening
In keeping with tradition, the Duchess of Cambridge also looked to Alexander McQueen for sartorial inspiration ahead of Princess Charlotte’s christening on July 2015.
The royal chose a bespoke coat dress for the ceremony held at St Magdalene’s Church in Sandringham.
She accessorised the look with a co-ordinating hat by Jane Taylor. Two years later, she re-wore the christening get-up at the 100th anniversary of the battle of Passchendaele in Belgium.
