Duchess of Cambridge makes surprise visit to London terror attack victims

Staff at King’s College Hospital were shocked to see the Duchess of Cambridge in their workplace earlier this afternoon.

The royal made a surprise visit to the hospital that had treated 14 victims of the recent London terror attacks.

Kate praised staff for their efforts, saying: “Well done. What you do is remarkable.”

She also met with a few of the victims who are still in hospital after suffering severe stab wounds.

The Duchess chose an understated look in the form of a blue tweed skirt suit by Rebecca Taylor. She has been seen in the ensemble many times before including during the 2014 royal tour of Australia and New Zealand.

The visit was kept well under wraps so that hospital staff were able to continue treating patients without distraction, according to insiders.

Kate also continued her mental health campaign by talking to senior hospital officials about the psychological care that can be given to both staff and patients following terrorism incidents.

Malcolm Tunnicliff, clinical director of the emergency department, was one staff member that spoke with the royal. “I think the Duchess was really affected by the dedication of the staff and how resilient they are,” he said.

“We prepare for incidents like this 24 hours a day but it’s really nice when someone like the Duchess of Cambridge comes in and sees what we do first hand and says thanks.”

“It gives the patients a lift. It gives the staff a lift that they are being recognised.”

Last month, the Queen made a similar visit to survivors of the tragic Manchester bombing at an Ariana Grande concert.
