Double amputee model makes history walking in New York Fashion Week show
A double amputee child model has walked at New York Fashion Week.
Daisy-May Demetre, who is nine years old, is the first double amputee child to take to the catwalk in an official NYFW show.
She walked for haute couture children’s brand LuLu et GiGi in their show yesterday.

Demetre was born with fibular hemimela, a condition which means part of or all of the fibula (calf bone) in the leg is missing.
She boasts 20,400 followers on her Instagram account, where there are regular updates about her modelling work. The account is not run by her personally, but by her father Alex who posts on her behalf.
Her inclusion in the Lulu et Gigi show comes following her stand-out appearance at London Kids’ Fashion Week, for children’s clothing brand Panda London, where she cartwheeled down the catwalk.
The young model, who is described as “fearless” on her Instagram account, began her career aged seven, when she won a modelling contract with River Island.

She is currently signed by Zebedee Management.
Demetre’s appearance at NYFW came after she spotted at London Kids’ Fashion Week by LuLu et GiGi designer Eni Hegedűs-Buiron, according to the BBC.
Alex, Daisy-May’s father – whose daughter Ella, 11, also joined her sister on the catwalk – told the broadcaster: “Daisy and Ella both did amazing.”
"[Daisy] walked it like a professional and had fun doing it. She felt really proud of herself for what she achieved."
This season of New York Fashion Week has been noted for its diversity of representation, including yesterday’s Chromat show – which saw plus-size model Tess Holliday walk alongside Mama Cax, who has a prosthetic leg.
Fashion designer Rebecca Minkoff was also praised for featuring a breastfeeding mum in her 2019 NYFW show over the weekend.
