How the Duchess of Sussex's Wimbledon outfit gave a diplomatic nod to the tournament
Watch the full interview with Liz Brewer and Victoria Howard on episode four of Yahoo UK’s brand new show ‘The Royal Box‘ , which is available to stream here from Friday 20 July.
The Duchess of Sussex may be new to royal life, but it appears she’s becoming well accustomed to the art of diplomatic dressing.
Her must-talked about wardrobe has spoken a thousand words, whether she’s showcasing female designers, wearing sustainable brands or paying homage to her new home country in British labels.
Most recently, the 36-year-old attended Wimbledon alongside her sister-in-law, the Duchess of Cambridge, to watch the Ladies Singles Final on Saturday.
For the occasion, the Duchess of Sussex opted for a blue-and-white striped, boxy shirt by Ralph Lauren which she wore unbuttoned and relaxed.
She paired the shirt with chic white Ralph Lauren trousers.
While many raved about her fashion-forward take on off-duty dressing (and her £69 shirt, which sold out instantly only), many failed to notice her diplomatic nod to the tournament.
“Meghan was wearing a striped shirt and bottoms which might have bee a nod to the Wimbledon staff, that’s what the umpires wear,” royal expert Victoria Howard tells Yahoo UK on episode four of ‘The Royal Box’.
“This was a nice little touch, the kind of diplomatic dressing you expect from a royal.”
Recently, the uniform of the sports officials has been changed from blazers and skirts for women to a more relaxed striped blue-and-white shirt with cream trousers.
The umpire outfits are also designed by Ralph Lauren which is perhaps a further indication of Meghan’s tribute.
