Cruz Beckham has dropped his first single, but is 11 too young to be launching a pop career?

So looks like Cruz Beckham is set to become the next Justin Bieber. The Beckhams have been offering teasers of the 11-year-old’s musical talents on social media all year, and now they’ve taken it to the next level by allowing the youngster to release his first single.

Showcasing the festive track ‘If Every Day Was Christmas’ on Wednesday morning’s Capital FM Breakfast Show, Cruz announced that proceeds from the single will go to Global’s Make Some Noise Organisation – which funds charities across the UK.

But while the Internet melted at the first hearing of the seasonal tune, others weren’t quite so impressed with brand Beckham for giving the go ahead for Cruz to enter the celebrity circuit.

Speaking on Good Morning Britain, Piers Morgan slammed David and Victoria for allowing the 11-year-old to launch his pop career so young.

Describing the situation as “sickening” Piers said he thought Cruz “should be at school.”

Making it clear that he wasn’t landing the blame at Cruz’s hightops, but holding his parents entirely responsible he said: “It’s not his fault. He’s 11. But how did he manage to release this? It’s sickening.”

The presenter later took to Twitter to defend his views to Cruz’s manager, Scooter Braun, who also manages Justin Bieber.

“He’s an 11yr-old child being cynically pimped out by his famous parents with your collusion,” Piers wrote.

Scooter was quick to fire back. “He is an 11 year old who wanted to make a song to help other kids. Once again Piers shows why he is a jackass and why his show was cancelled.”

But Piers wasn’t done yet: “Stop pretending this is about charity when it’s about promoting Brand Beckham & making YOU a ton of money off another young kid’s back.”

And it seems some people were in agreement with Piers.

“Too young in MY opinion! @justinbieber has already proved this in the last couple of years that it affects you later!

“Totally agree with Piers about Cruz Beckham it’s not right,” added another.

“Cruz Beckham is an 11 year old pop star??? Not sure what to make of this. Surely he needs to just be a kid first…or is it good timing?” another user posed.

Celebrity Journalist Dan Wootton also took to social media to give his views on Cruz becoming a pint-sized popstar.

“I’ve covered child stars – Bieber, Lilo etc – it’s no life. very surprised the Beckhams would want this for their 11-year-old,” he wrote.

Cruz isn’t the only Beckham to start carving out his celebrity career at such a young age. Big brother, Romeo, participated in his very first modelling gig at age 10 for big-time brand, Burberry. And even bigger brother Brooklyn has been dabbling in celebrity photography, modelling and the like since an equally young age.

The youngest Beckham boy has also joined his older brothers in making his social media debut. Earlier this week, his manager, Scooter, signed cruz up to his own Instagram account and the youngster quickly wracked up 30K followers in just one hour.

And as we all know with social media, comes unwanted attention that grown-ups let alone children often struggle to deal with. So is it a good idea for an 11-year-old to be exposed to the, sometimes creepy, often hurtful, online world?

The Beckham boys certainly aren’t the only celebrity offspring to launch their own careers young. Cindy Crawford’s daughter, Kaia Gerber also made her modelling debut at the age of 10. While Anais Gallagher, daughter of Oasis star Noel and his ex-wife Meg Mathews, was signed up by Select Model Management at 11.

Then there’s child stars Justin Bieber and Lindsay Lohan, who’ve wracked up countless headlines between them under the too much, too young? veil.

No doubt the Beckhams have considered the effects fame could have on their youngest boy, but then you could argue that Cruz and his siblings are already ‘famous’ thanks to the huge global star of their parents. So would it be possible for them to have a ‘normal’ childhood anyway? In which case, shouldn’t Cruz just do what he loves to do and take advantage of the opportunities having celebrity parents will obviously present to him?

Of course it could be argued that children often follow their parents into the same profession. The sons and daughters of doctors or solicitors often become doctors or solicitors in their turn. So what’s the difference in Cruz following mum, Victoria, into the music business? Would an 11-year-old child genius face the same backlash?

Whatever you think about Cruz releasing a single at 11, you can’t deny that the boy has got something. Let’s just hope we’re not reading those too much, too young? headlines in a few years time.
