Couples Who Split The Housework Equally Have Better Sex Lives. FACT.

Do you have trouble convincing your other half to do their fair share of the household chores? Well how’s this for a sweetener to induce them into sticking on the marigolds: more housework = more sex. Well, sort of.

A new study has revealed the importance of housework when it comes to sex in relationships. The research, to be published in the Journal of Marriage and Family, has found that couples who share the housework more equally and fairly have more sex. Simples.

It sort of makes sense, really, if you think about it. If you’ve spent the weekend picking up your other half’s dirty pants, you’re not really going to fancy getting down and dirty in the bedroom. Equality, on the other hand, now there’s a turn on!

One of the authors in the study, Cornell University professor, Sharon Sassler, explained that though there’s been an International decline in the amount of sex couples are having – those who split the chores more fairly are the only group to experience an increase in sex frequency.

“Contemporary couples who adhere to a more egalitarian division of labour are the only couples who have experienced an increase in sexual frequency compared to their counterparts of the past,” she explains. “Other groups – including those where the woman does the bulk of the housework – have experienced declines in sexual frequency.”

Researchers found that couples who shared housework equally had sex 6.8 times per month on average. Which is a whole session more than couples where the woman took on the bulk of the housework.

So if you want to up the ante in the bedroom stakes, it might be time to draw up a chore list and get cleaning that loo. Do it today, your sex life depends on it.
