From Helen Mirren's blue hair to Kate's fringe, memorable celebrity hair changes
Celebrity hair transformations never fail to catch us off guard. Just when we’re getting used to a celebrity's signature look, they give themselves a fringe, chop off all of their hair or dye it a completely different colour.
The latest hair transformation comes courtesy of Dame Helen Mirren who debuted her new blue hairdo at the 2023 Cannes Film Festival.
The actor’s vibrantly hued hair matched her powder blue gown – but she’s not the only celebrity who has surprised us with a dramatic hair transformation in recent years.
From Julia Robert’s fringe, to Florence Pugh’s shaved head and Stacey Solomon’s stint as a redhead, here are the most memorable celebrity hair transformations.
Dame Helen Mirren
While the actor has been growing out her hair since the beginning of the pandemic, the blue hue is the first time she’s experimented with colour in recent memory. She debuted the look at the 2023 Cannes Film Festival.
Cara Delevingne
The British supermodel shocked the world when she arrived at the Met Gala in 2017 sporting a shaved head painted silver. She's since experimented with multiple different styles, from pixie cuts and returned to her long, blonde locks.
Brad Pitt
Brad Pitt has been known to toy with various hair lengths, but he certainly appeared to be channelling Kurt Cobain in 1994.
Julia Roberts
After having a signature hairdo of big bouncy curls in the ‘80s and ‘90s, Julia Roberts experimented with her hair colours for a while before landing on the look she’s worn for the past decade or so: soft reddish-brown waves with a centre parting. Only this year has she switched things up yet again with a new fringe that she debuted in March.
Andie MacDowell
The American actor returned to the red carpet in 2021 with a departure from her iconic brunette curls: naturally-coloured grey locks that inspired women globally.
Shania Twain
Shania Twain proved that she suits any hair colour when she debuted her light pink tresses at the 2022 People’s Choice Awards.
David Beckham
David Beckham is a bonafide hair chameleon. The former footballer has rocked everything from a bowl cut, to long hair, and bleached tips. He seems to have settled for a quiff for the last decade or so, however.
Florence Pugh
Florence Pugh’s shaved head was one of the most talked-about moments of the 2023 Met Gala. The actor had swapped her usual blonde bob for a completely shaven head.
Michelle Obama
The former First Lady of the United States has embraced her natural hair more since leaving the Whitehouse. Often wearing it curly or in plaits.
Lily James
Little James has tried most cuts and colours, but the last few years have seen her slowly move from being a grown-out blonde to a deep brunette.
Kate, Princess of Wales
The Princess of Wales has lightly experimented with her hairstyles over the years, from shorter collar bone-length styles, to even a few dalliances with a fringe. These days, she remains steadfast to her signature dark brown long locks.
Emma Watson
Emma Watson shed her Hermione image once and for all when she turned up to the final Harry Potter film premiere in 2011 with a short pixie cut. Over a decade on and she not opts for a tousled lob.
Lily Allen
Lily Allen has been rocking a fringe for quite some time now, but this year she decided to ditch her signature jet black hair for a bleach blonde look instead.
Charlize Theron
Charlize Theron swayed from her usual blonde bob with a side parting in 2022 when she opted for a black mullet-style haircut instead.
Justin Timberlake
Justin Timberlake's blonde curls were the object of every teen girls affection in the 1990s, but the singer now sticks to a cropped brunette look.
Stacey Solomon
The Loose Women presenter dabbled with being a redhead in 2022, before returning to her signature blonde.
