Celebrities slammed for smoking in the Met Gala bathroom
We’re only too aware of the life-shortening risks associated with smoking. From cancer to fertility issues, smoking just one cigarette a day can drastically alter your life.
But that didn’t stop Hollywood’s finest from breaking the rules and lighting up at the Met Gala. Several pictures show A-listers from Bella Hadid to Stella McCartney smoking in the bathroom of the Metropolitan Museum of Art.
The stars didn’t seem to care that they were breaking a law that has been in place since 2003 (or the fact that the smoke could potentially damage priceless artwork).
Model Bella Hadid was seen blowing smoke on the floor of the toilet while next to Lara Stone, Paris Jackson and Ruby Rose.
Captured by Rita Ora, a Gucci-clad Dakota Johnson also lit up alongside actor Rami Malek.
Even designers got in on the rule-flouting. Marc Jacobs posted a picture of himself smoking with Courtney Love and her daughter Frances Bean Cobain.
Meanwhile, Stella McCartney and Valentino creative director Pierpaolo Piccioli were spotted with cigarette in hand.
Medical experts have criticised the stars for glamorising smoking. “It is a little alarming,” a spokesperson for the American Lung Association told the Daily Mail.
“At one point, smoking was fashionable but we are worried that younger people will try and emulate the stars. Celebrities smoking is one of the most effective forms of marketing.”
Should celebrities be aware of the image they are sending out? Or are they entitled to reject the ‘role model’ label and live their life as openly as they choose?
