Celebrity breastfeeding photos: Stacey Solomon to Chrissy Teigen among famous mums who have shared their nursing experience

We’re in the midst of World Breastfeeding Week, which this year falls from 1-7 August. This is an awareness week to encourage breastfeeding and improve the health of babies around the world.

While some mothers struggle with the process, breastfeeding is proven to offer health benefits for children in later life. Exclusive breastfeeding is recommended for babies up to six months of age – and alongside “appropriate complemententary foods” up until infants are two years old, according to the World Health Organisation.

So, given this recommendation, how do we make it easier for mothers to breastfeed, especially those who have busy lives and workplace pressures?

Social media has proved a tool to help normalise the breastfeeding process, amid several high-profile instances of mothers being discriminated against for breastfeeding in public.

To boot, a whole host of celebrity mums have got real about breastfeeding on Instagram, posting everything from candid shots of them nursing their young ‘uns at home to pictures of them using a breast pump.

Gisele Bundchen

Some busy mothers have shared images of themselves breastfeeding on the go, including during the hair and make-up process as was the case for supermodel Gisele Bundchen’s shot – it’s a hard life!

Tess Holliday

Bundchen’s post was deemed “iconic” by plus-size model Tess Holliday, who went on to pay homage to it with her own breastfeeding shot from the beautifying station.

Eva Longoria

Then there was ‘Desperate Housewives’ actor Eva Longoria, who tweeted images of herself feeding while standing up on set last month.

Kate Hudson

Also in the breastfeeding at work posse is fitnesswear entrepreneur and actress Kate Hudson, who gave birth to daughter Rani in October 2 2018.

On her Instagram, she fed her daughter while wearing a comfy outfit from her Fabletics line.

Stacey Solomon

The increasing amounts of celeb mums taking to Insta to share their experiences have helped to normalise the process – and this includes both the good and the bad.

Recently, Stacey Solomon shared an image of her breastfeeding her son Rex, getting real about her “bleeding nipples”.

Breast pumping, a useful tool for new mothers to store milk when they are going back to work, or feed a baby unable to latch, has also been put in the spotlight by celeb mums.

Amy Schumer

There was new mum Amy Schumer, who shared an image of her using a double breast pump.

And she’s not the only celebrity to use one.

Rachel McAdams

Rachel McAdams went one step further in normalising the gadget, posing on the front of Girls Girls Girls magazine with hers.

Hilary Duff

‘Lizzie McGuire’ actor frequently posts candid posts about raising her kids, of which breastfeeding posts have been a part.

Kat Von D

Then there are the mums taking their breastfeeding alfresco, such as the likes of American tattoo artist and model Kat Von D, who shared an image of herself breastfeeding son Leafar Von Drachenberg Reyes in the garden – calling it “vitamin Double D”.

Chrissy Teigen

Chrissy Teigen, unofficially known as the funniest mum on the internet, also shared a hilarious picture of herself breastfeeding son Milo, while she held a doll – at her daughter Luna’s request – to her other nipples.

Candice Swanepoel

Then there was Victoria’s Secret angel Candice Swanepoel, who shared an image of her breastfeeding her son Anana together with a candid caption about the challenges of nursing.

Pink

Finally, singer Pink has in previous years posted commemorating breastfeeding awareness week, drawing attention to the “healthy, natural act between mother and child”.

While initiatives like World Breastfeeding Week are helping to normalise practising it in public, it is still true there is a lack of support for new mums in the work place – with recent stats finding a third of mums express milk in work toilet.
