Celeb 'girl squads' are back, as A-list gal pals enjoy Valentine's night out
Celeb 'girl squads' are still going strong, and trio Selena Gomez, 29, Cara Delevingne, 29, and Amy Schumer, 40, who were spotted enjoying a night out together in New York on the weekend, could well be the latest enviable girl gang.
The actors and models arrived at New York's members-only Chapel Bar, located in a Park Avenue Church around 10pm on Valentine's - or Galentines'- Day, partying in 'the confessional' for privacy, gossip site Page Six reports.
A source told the celeb site, "The whole club was trying to get in. It was super tight, and [the women] didn't want anyone to see who was in the confessional. They kept a very low profile. Cara was wearing black jeans and Selena was kind of dressed up, but it was all pretty casual. It was just the three of them."
The source also described them as "secret regulars", reportedly popping bubbly and dancing before leaving the club after midnight.
Gomez and Delevingne's friendship is also marked by ink, with their meaningful matching tattoos. In December last year, the Bang Bang Tattoo NYC Instagram account first revealed Gomez's new body artwork, showcasing a large watercolour rose at the top of her back.
The caption reads, "Watercolor on @selenagomez. Thank you for always being wonderful."
Then, the following day, the same account posted a clip of Delevingne with an almost identical design on the side of her ribcage, writing, "Matching for @caradelevingne. I had so much fun making these tattoos – thanks for always trusting me Cara. fyi I didn't tell them till the end that these were my first watercolor tattoos ever."
In January, Gomez opened up about the meaning behind the matching tattoos. During an interview on Live With Kelly and Ryan, when asked about the rose, she said, "It means a couple of different things. But me and Cara, one of my best friends that I've known for – I was maybe 16 when I met her – she calls me 'Rosebud.' So, it's a nickname, and I've always wanted a rose. Now, I got one and I love it."
Perhaps Schumer can get a Rose the next time they venture out together too...

But they're not the only A-list 'girl squad' out there, with many others forming strong friendships in the industry too, including Adele's close bond with Nicole Richie and Jennifer Lawrence.
As the much-loved singer songwriter started to emerge from her lengthy hiatus, we began to see snaps on social media of her life in LA in 2020, with Richie and Lawrence both her close neighbours. She even dedicated a whole birthday post to Richie, with a series of funny pictures and a video of the pair laughing together at home.
Adele wrote as the caption, "Happy belated birthday to my daily dose of grace @nicolerichie I admire you and love you so much. You are the epitome of self preservation, self love and absolute savagery! You are so so cherished by so many angel girl! Keep making us laugh babes, we adore you to the moon and back."
She first met Lawrence at the Oscars in 2013, when they both picked up awards.

Adele spoke about her friendship with the pair to Rolling Stone last November, saying, "They humanised me because I had avoided talking to anyone that was ever famous in any capacity, because I was like, 'Well, I'm not famous.' I'm very British like that.
"We never spoke about work, which was amazing, because most of the time when I catch up with someone, they want to know all about my work, and I'm like, 'I don't want to talk about that. Can we talk about something else? I'm knackered.'"
Less of a 'squad', and more of a duo, always showing their support for one another, are Salma Hayek and Penélope Cruz. Explaining how their bond first became so strong, Cruz spoke about when she first arrived in LA, and Hayek, who she'd only met over the phone helped her out, in an interview with Ellen.
She said, "I got here with a ticket to make a movie, I had my return ticket, so I was coming here for two months and I didn't know anyone here.
"She picked me up at the airport and she said, 'You're not going to a hotel, you're coming to my house because this is hard at the beginning and you're going to feel very lonely.' So – she took me to her house. That's why now we're like sisters."

She added, "And I ended up also sleeping in her room because I was scared. And you know, that's the way we met. And on top of that, in the middle of the night she says I was holding her hand because I was afraid, I don't know, I was dreaming."
Showing that they're still each other's biggest cheerleaders, Hayek shared a post dedicated to Cruz earlier this month on Instagram, congratulating her and her husband Javier Bardem for their recent accomplishment, writing, "Congratulations to this beautiful, incredibly talented and super dynamic couple for their Oscar nominations for best actress and best actor."
They've also said many kind words about one another over the years, including Cruz telling Allure, "She's one of my best friends. We call each other huevos [eggs]. It was because when we were working together, we didn't have children yet, so we used to sleep much more than now. So it was a way to call each other lazy" and Hayek telling Vogue, "Penélope is a motherly creature, a warrior by nature. I told her that little boy [her son Leo] is the luckiest boy in the world."

The original girl 'tribe' also shouldn't be forgotten, known as Taylor Swift's personal squad, with her on-screen and off-screen relationships brought to light by her 2015 song Bad Blood, featuring Gigi Hadid, Selena Gomez, Martha Hunt, Cara Delevingne, Lily Aldridge, and many more.
Many of the 'members' showed support for her after Kanye West released the song Famous, taking credit for Swift's fame (also following when he took over her MTV Video Music Awards speech in 2009, saying it should have gone to Beyoncé’). While the Swift Squad might be less public now, it paved the way for what is now known as the celeb 'girl squad' - proving the ongoing strength of female friendships in the industry.
