Catherine Zeta-Jones brings the naked dress to an amazing new level

Naked dresses don’t always have to be super-scandalous. Case in point: Catherine Zeta-Jones Monday night, wearing the most regal yet revealing number we’ve seen grace a red carpet.

The actress was attending the MIPCOM Opening Party in Cannes, and she chose a perfect dress for the occasion. Cannes is a sophisticated city by the sea with a history of some Hollywood style and scandal thanks to its famed film festival. Zeta-Jones’s dress matched the mood in the floor-length black Zuhair Murad column gown with a plunging neckline. It had crisscross sequin detailing across the bodice, and long, dark, vertical lines going down the skirt. The back was dangerously low and had thick crisscrossed straps. The dress was sheer, and the only visible lining covered her breasts.

She was in France to promote her new Lifetime movie, Cocaine Godmother, in which she plays Miami drug lord Griselda Blanco. While it doesn’t look like she was channeling this character on the red carpet, the dress and faux bob created a high-fashion flapper look that brought back memories of her character in Chicago. Moreover, we think Velma Kelly would have killed for this ensemble.

Yet, it wasn’t too saucy for a naked dress. In fact, we think the 48-year-old star just proved that naked dresses can work no matter what your age or occupation — read: They’re not solely for the Jenner or Hadid sisters.
