You can now get married in a Carrie Bradshaw wedding dress
Brides-to-be, rejoice. Sarah Jessica Parker (AKA Carrie Bradshaw) has saved you from making one of the hardest sartorial decisions of your life.
Yes, the former actress recently turned her hand to design and has launched a line of wedding dresses in collaboration with US retail giant, Gilt.
With the belief that ‘weddings don’t have to be traditional’, the 53-year-old’s 10-piece collection features everything from a halter-neck jumpsuit to a black skater dress.
And in every stitch and tulle skirt, there’s a nod towards Carrie Bradshaw’s now-famous SATC wardrobe. Renowned for her millennial pink get-ups (before anyone knew it was set to become the hue of the decade) and risk-taking flair, there’s certainly a fashionable dose of the noughties style muse in each look.
For her wedding to Mr Big, Carrie donned a frothy Vivienne Westwood gown. And in a familiar risk-taking move, the former actress chose a rule-breaking black dress to tie the knot with Matthew Broderick IRL.
Tom Ott, chief merchant of Gilt, told WWD: “Not only is Sarah Jessica Parker’s style known around the world, her point of view is one-of-a-kind. Sarah Jessica brings her impeccable taste and fashion sensibility to life in this collection. We think our customers will be delighted with the offering which is stylish and well-priced in the bridal category.”
But the non-traditional ready-to-wear bridal line isn’t the first time SJP has dipped her toe into the fashion sphere. Four years ago, the 53-year-old launched her debut shoe business in New York.
And according to the former actress, women began to buy shoes from her line for their upcoming nuptials. So for her newly-launched bridal line, she decided to include 15 exclusive styles from the SJP by Sarah Jessica Parker footwear label.
With a colour palette which includes everything from traditional white to poppy red and powder pink, the former actress told WWD that there is ‘no law’ on how and where customers choose to wear the line.
She describes the collection as ‘very, very simple’ and although some items are ‘more decadent and more specifically bridal’, some looks could certainly be donned by bridesmaids or wedding guests.
