Camilla struggles with umbrella at Royal Ascot as the Queen braves the rain
As Brits, we’re more than used to contending with unpredictable weather and even the royals aren’t immune to it.
The Duchess of Cornwall summed it up for all of us, as she appeared to struggle with her umbrella as the Royal Family arrived at Ascot in their horse-drawn procession.
Camilla, 71, had the clear Fulton brolly over her head as the carriage began to make its way around the Berkshire racecourse.
But as the royals appeared on camera, Camilla quickly tried to close it, appearing to have difficulty in the process. She later opened it up again.

No official word on the colour that the Queen is wearing today (pastel blue perhaps?) but no ☂️ 🙌

I spoke too soon. There must be a bit of rain again at Royal Ascot because Camilla just put up her umbrella again. pic.twitter.com/ZWNixbudiY

But the Queen, 93, who was in the same carriage, didn’t seem to mind the drizzle as she went without an umbrella for the procession.
She was one of the only female members of the Royal Family in the horse-drawn landaus to brave the wet weather at the racecourse.
Twitter users quickly picked up on that, with one saying: “Camilla using an umbrella at royal Ascot, while the Queen is being old school. [sic]”

What a wimp the Duchess of Cornwall is ! Sat by the Her Majesty the Queen with an umbrella over herself. No umbrella for the Queen, what a brilliant monarch!

Day 2 of #RoyalAscot about to start. The Queen did not use an umbrella during the procession even though it was a steady light rain. She is incredible!!

For Tuesday’s day at the races, the Queen wore a mottled duck egg outfit by Stewart Parvin and a matching floral-adorned hat by Rachel Trevor Morgan.
Camilla matched the monarch in an aqua outfit with her aquamarine three-strand pearl necklace.
Yesterday, Her Majesty was joined by the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, the Earl and Countess of Wessex and granddaughters Zara Tindall, Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie.
Blue appeared to be the theme of the day as the Queen, Kate, Zara, Beatrice and Eugenie all sported outfits in the colour, while Sophie, Camilla and Queen Maxima of the Netherlands complemented them in pale pink and blush hues.
The Queen usually attends every day of Royal Ascot, which takes place 18 - 22 June.
