Man reveals budget DIY tricks that turned bland bedroom into rock 'n' roll sanctuary
A man has used clever DIY tricks and upcycling to transform his bland bedroom into an eclectic paradise.
Glen Handley, 31, from the Midlands, regularly shares images of the incredible room transformations in his colourful home on his Instagram account @inside.number.twelve.
Using flashes of colour pop paint and clever upcycling skills, the DIY fan has been busy overhauling his home into a beautiful blend of different styles.
In his most recent makeover, Handley has remodelled a drab bedroom into a daring yet relaxing sanctuary.
Though he describes his interior style as "bold and eclectic", for this particular room Handley was keen to keep some calm, so opted for softer muted tones to give the space more of a relaxed, serene feel.

Having previously saved money on renovations throughout the house by carrying out some of the work himself, Handley decided to do the same in the bedroom.
“We ripped everything out back to basics and started again with everything," he tells Mattressonline.co.uk.
"We had tradespeople in to do the plumbing, electrics and plastering but everything else we did ourselves.”
Shopping around for furnishings also helped to keep costs low.
“I love upcycling and have actually revived lot of my grandparents old furniture in other places in the house," Handley explains.
"I have a really cool sideboard that I bought for £20 on Facebook Marketplace which cost me a total of about £30 to renovate.”

One thing Handley is particularly proud of is the hand painted arch mural which he achieved on his first ever attempt.
"I love how it adds a certain depth to the room," he says of the unique feature.
For anyone hoping to achieve a similar eclectic look in their home, Handley suggests starting with a mood board.
“You can do it electronically if you want, but I think a physical mood board is always best, so you can get a real feel for the textures and colours you’d like to use," he explains.
"For the bedroom I stuck to muted earthy tones to give it that really serene feel, but went quite bold with colour blocking to give it that eclectic bolder look.
"I’m a massive lover of a pattern clash too, so adding in different patterns with soft furnishings is another good way to add some pops of colour and personality."

If you like the idea of colour blocking but are afraid to do it yourself Handley suggests trying colour block vinyl transfers to help create a similar look.
"But always take your time with planning things to ensure you’ve made the right decisions in what you're trying to create,” he adds.

Handley says the most important part of his process has been finding a colour pallet and sticking to it.
"You can then add in other pops of colour along the way," he explains. "Planning my colour pallet really helped, but this room has adapted throughout with use of soft furnishings, plants, prints and art work.”
He also advises other wannabe DIY-ers not to be afraid to be adventurous in their decor decisions.
“We all have different ideas and tastes around home decor and I think it’s important to find what works for you," he explains.
"I’m quite an extrovert, so this shows with my home decor. Don’t be afraid to be adventurous in your home it’s a great outlet for creativity and you might just learn some new skills along the way."
And there's an unexpected benefit to Handley's eclectic furnishing and decor choices.
"I personally find adding colour and plants into my home is good for my metal state and makes me smile everyday,” he adds.
